Episode 1: Leela
“Shout out to you, Internet! Don’t use that for bad.”
In which Luke often misses the point; Leela hates Xander Harris personally; and we talk about what we bring to, and take from, our favorite media. Contains spoilers for Fight Club, Discworld, Sucker Punch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men, and Stranger Things. Makes reference to Alleycat Comics (http://www.alleycatcomics.com/) and this comic (http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php/index.php?id=311) by Kate Beaton.
(It’s the Summoning Dark. We know. We looked it up.)
Leela (when not enthusiastically discussing intersectionality, pop culture, and television's current Golden Age), is a Project Manager with Morten Group, LLC, a social justice consulting firm serving for-profits, nonprofits, and foundations in the Chicagoland area and nationwide. She really, really loves her job. In her free time, Leela volunteers with Chicago Lights as a tutor to one of the greatest 13 year-olds ever, and with the Shedd Aquarium Audience Research and Evaluation team. She also enjoys sour gummy worms and saying hello to dogs.
Leela graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Theatre and South Asian Studies. Her undergraduate thesis, "Preserving the 'Fine Village': The Commodification of Rajasthani Folk Performance at Chokhi Dhani" was selected for presentation at both Ohio State's Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and the National Undergraduate Research Conference. She plans to continue her research career in graduate school, and would welcome any tips on studying for the GRE.
